Calculators

Use the free quilting calculators

Twenty-four calculators for the sums a quilt asks for: binding, backing, batting, triangles, geese, borders, strips, precuts and more. Each one opens on a worked example, and the You need card updates as you type.

Where to find it

Studio top bar → Calculators. Also at quiltler.com → Calculators, and the Calculators tab in the iPhone and iPad app.

Open the calculators
In the studio's Calculators page, typing geese in Find a calculator leaves only Flying geese, and opening it shows the calculator with its answer filled in: 2 goose squares at 5 1/4 inches and 8 sky squares at 2 7/8 inches

How to do it

  1. Press Calculators in the studio's top bar. The calculators are grouped into Finishing, Piecing, Layout and Fabric.
  2. Type in Find a calculator to narrow the list, for example “geese” or “binding”.
  3. Open one. It starts on an example, with the answer already in the You need card.
  4. Change the numbers to match your quilt. The card follows as you type, and there's nothing to save.

Good to know

  • These don't read a quilt you've drawn. For the yardage of a quilt in the designer, use Fabric Calculator in the designer.
  • Measurements are in inches. The Measurements calculator converts yards, inches, centimeters and meters.
  • On iPhone and iPad, the Calculators tab has the same 24. The app asks you to sign in, but the calculators stay free.
