Calculators

Plan sashing strips and cornerstones

The Sashing calculator gives the sashing pieces between your blocks, with or without cornerstones, the yardage, and the quilt's size before borders.

Where to find it

Studio top bar → Calculators → Sashing. Also at quiltler.com → Calculators, and in the Calculators tab of the iPhone and iPad app.

Open the sashing calculator
On the Sashing calculator, typing 1.5 inch sashing and choosing no cornerstones gives a 36 1/2 by 46 inch quilt with 15 short sashes and 4 long sashes 37 inches long, 1/4 yard each

How to do it

  1. Press Calculators in the studio's top bar and choose Sashing. It opens on 8″ blocks, 4 across and 5 down, with 2″ sashing, with the answer already in the You need card.
  2. Type your Finished block (inches) and Finished sashing (inches).
  3. Type the Columns and Rows of blocks.
  4. Choose Cornerstones: With cornerstones, or No cornerstones — long horizontal sashes.
  5. Read the card: the quilt size before borders, the Sash pieces, the long sashes or cornerstones, and the yardage.

Good to know

  • Sashing here goes between blocks, not around the outside. Add an outer frame with the Borders calculator.
