Add sashing and cornerstones

Put strips of fabric between your blocks with Sashing, then add Cornerstones where the strips cross. Set the width and colors, or make the strips from squares you fill.

Where to find it

Designer → Sashing (left panel) → Show

Open the designer
In the designer’s Sashing section, Show puts cream strips between the Irish Chain’s blocks, Cornerstones adds squares where they cross, and typing new colors turns the strips navy and the cornerstones rust

How to do it

  1. Press Show in the Sashing header in the left panel. Strips appear between the blocks.
  2. Type the strips’ Width, and a color code into Color, or press its swatch.
  3. Turn on Cornerstones for small squares where the strips cross, and set their color under Cornerstone.
  4. For pieced sashing, set Fill to Squares: each gap becomes squares you fill on the quilt like any other space.
  5. Press Hide to take the sashing away and close the gaps.

Good to know

  • Sashing needs the square grid, upright at 0°. On a shape grid or a turned grid, it’s off.
  • Sashing makes the quilt bigger. Finished with borders in Quilt settings shows the new size.
