Paper piecing

Draw seams on a paper piecing panel

With Line, every line you drag is a seam, and Quiltler numbers the patches as you draw. Move slides a point along its seam, and Erase takes a seam out.

Where to find it

Paper piecing panel → tool bar under the panel → Line (L), Move (V), Erase (E)

Open paper piecing
On a blank paper piecing panel the Line tool draws a house seam by seam, each new patch numbered; Move slides a slanted wall upright, and Erase takes out a stray seam

How to do it

  1. With a panel open, choose Line in the tool bar under it, or press L.
  2. Drag from one point on the drawing to another: an edge of the panel or a seam already there. A line inside one patch splits it in two, and the new patches are numbered at once.
  3. To draw a long seam in two clicks, click where it starts and click where it ends. Hold Shift to keep it to 15° angles; Esc drops the first end.
  4. To fix a seam, choose Move (V) and drag a point. It slides along the seam it sits on, and a move that would cross another seam is held back.
  5. To take a seam out, choose Erase (E) and click it. The patches either side become one.

Good to know

  • A seam has to end on the edge or on another seam. If nothing happens, check the line reaches all the way.
  • The bar under the tools always says what the tool does next and counts the patches and sections.
