Trim the quilt to fit your pieces

Fit to Pieces shrinks the quilt to the pieces on it and moves them into the corner, so there’s no empty space round your design.

Where to find it

Designer → Quilt settings → Fit to Pieces

Open the designer
An Irish Chain fills only the top-left corner of a 90 by 108 inch quilt; Fit to Pieces in Quilt settings trims the quilt to the pieces, 60 by 72 inches, with nothing empty round them

How to do it

  1. Open Quilt settings in the left panel and scroll down past the Across and Down cards.
  2. Press Fit to Pieces. The quilt shrinks to the pieces on it, and they move into the top-left corner.
  3. Read the new size under Finished with borders. One Undo puts it back.

Good to know

  • Borders wrap the new size.
  • On a hexagon or other shape grid, the quilt is rounded out to the grid by less than one shape, so every piece keeps its space.
  • The button is grayed out until there’s a piece on the quilt.
