Design on the quilt

Give pieces a triangle, curve or other shape

The Shapes in the designer’s palette turn a square into a half-square triangle, a drunkard’s path curve, a star and more. Select pieces and click a shape; No shape turns them back into plain squares.

Where to find it

Designer → right panel → Palette → Shapes, or the scissors icon (Go to Shapes) at the top of the panel.

Open the designer
In the designer, four selected squares of a Plus Quilt become half-square triangles when Half Square Triangle is picked in the palette’s Shapes, Rotate 90° turns them, and Drunkard’s Path gives them a curve instead

How to do it

  1. Select the pieces you want to change, then press Go to Shapes at the top of the right panel.
  2. Pick from Classics, Mine (shapes you’ve drawn) or Community, or search for one by name.
  3. Click a shape, like Half Square Triangle. Each piece takes the shape in its own color, and the rest of the space is left blank to color.
  4. Turn it with Rotate 90° under the design wall, or press C to turn the shape inside each piece.
  5. Changed your mind? No shape at the top of the shapes makes them plain again.

Good to know

  • With nothing selected, clicking a shape loads the Place brush, ready to click into spaces.
  • Shift-click several shapes to put them together in one space, like two triangles side by side.
  • The + in the shapes opens the Shape Designer, to draw a shape of your own.
