Calculators

Cut snowball blocks and their corners

The Snowball calculator gives the center squares and the corner squares to stitch and flip, for any size of block and corner.

Where to find it

Studio top bar → Calculators → Snowball. Also at quiltler.com → Calculators, and in the Calculators tab of the iPhone and iPad app.

Open the snowball calculator
On the Snowball calculator, typing a 3 inch finished corner and 20 blocks gives 20 center squares at 8 1/2 inches and 80 corner squares at 3 1/2 inches

How to do it

  1. Press Calculators in the studio's top bar and choose Snowball. It opens on twelve 8″ blocks with 2″ corners, with the answer already in the You need card.
  2. Type your Finished block (inches) and Finished corner (inches): how far each corner reaches along the block's edge.
  3. Type How many blocks you need.
  4. Read the card: the Center squares and Corner squares to cut. Stitch a corner square on each corner and flip it open.

Good to know

  • A corner more than half the block would overlap the next one, and the card says Check the numbers.
