Get the cutting instructions for your quilt

Your printable pattern writes the cutting the way published patterns do, fabric by fabric: strips cut across the width of fabric, then subcut into squares and rectangles, with cutting diagrams and strips left whole for strip sets.

Where to find it

Designer → More → Printable pattern — cutting & sewing → the Cutting page in the preview.

Open your quilts
The Cutting page of the pattern in the live preview: Fabric A is cut in 5 strips 12½″ × WOF and subcut into 15 squares, and Fabrics B and C in strips left whole for strip sets and 9¾″ strips subcut into squares for half-square triangles made eight at a time

How to do it

  1. Open the quilt's Printable pattern page.
  2. Scroll the preview on the right to the Cutting page.
  3. Each fabric is listed by its letter, with the strips to cut across the width of fabric (WOF) and what to subcut them into.
  4. Strips for strip sets are left whole until they're sewn, and triangles are cut for the method you chose, such as half-square triangles made eight at a time.
  5. Change a method on the Construction tab and the cutting rewrites itself to match.

Good to know

  • Strips are counted for your usable fabric width, so set it in the Fabric Calculator's Assumptions if yours isn't 42″.
  • The Fabric Calculator also lists each piece's cut size, fabric by fabric, if you only need the sizes.
