Design on the quilt

Swap pieces for a different fabric or shape

Set Place to Replace and a click swaps the piece under it, or every piece in that fabric, for the one you’re placing. Keep says what each piece holds on to: its fabric, its shape or its turn.

Where to find it

Designer → Place → the New menu on the bar under the design wall → Replace.

Open the designer
In the designer, Place is loaded with a half-square triangle, the New menu is switched to Replace with All matches and Keep Fabric, and one click on a rust square turns every rust square on the Plus Quilt into a rust half-square triangle

How to do it

  1. Choose Place in the tool dock and load the fabric and shape you want with the Fabric and Shape chips.
  2. Open the New menu on the bar and choose Replace.
  3. Under Which pieces, choose This piece, In selection or All matches (every piece in that fabric, anywhere on the quilt).
  4. Under Keep, tick what each piece keeps: Fabric to change only the shape, Shape to change only the fabric, Turn to keep its angle.
  5. Click a piece on the quilt. Hover a choice in the menu first to watch a preview of what it will do.

Good to know

  • New (the usual setting) lays a new piece on top instead.
  • Which pieces is shared with dragging a color onto the quilt, so set it once for both.
  • Empty cloth always gets a new piece, even in Replace.
