Design on the quilt

Fill a row, a column or the whole quilt with one piece

Spread repeats the next piece from the space under the pointer out to the edge of the quilt, along a row, a column or a diagonal, or into every space at once.

Where to find it

Designer → Place, then ⌥⇧ and a number key with the pointer on the quilt, or Spread on the bar under the design wall.

Open the designer
In the designer, with Place loaded with a navy circle, the pointer rests on the first square of a row and ⌥⇧6 fills the row with circles to the quilt's edge, ⌥⇧2 fills a column downward, and ⌥⇧5 puts a navy circle in every space on the Plus Quilt

How to do it

  1. Choose Place and load the fabric and shape with the Fabric and Shape chips.
  2. Rest the pointer on the space you want to spread from.
  3. Hold ⌥ (Option) and Shift and press a number, laid out like a number pad: 6 fills to the right, 4 to the left, 8 up, 2 down, and 7, 9, 1 or 3 along a diagonal.
  4. Press ⌥⇧5 to put the piece in every space on the grid.
  5. The same directions are buttons in Spread on the bar, with All in the middle.

Good to know

  • A spread lands on top of the pieces already there, just as clicks would. One Undo takes the whole run back.
  • The Spread buttons start from the last space the pointer was over, so the keys are the surer way to pick where a run begins.
