Set your blocks on point

Turn the whole grid with Rotation. At 45°, squares stand on their points as diamonds, and pieces already on the quilt turn with it.

Where to find it

Designer → Grid → Rotation, or the 0°, 30°, 45°, 60° and 90° buttons under it

Open the designer
In the Grid section, pressing 45° turns the Irish Chain’s grid on point, so its squares stand as diamonds trimmed at the quilt’s edge

How to do it

  1. Open Grid in the left panel.
  2. Press 45° under Rotation. The grid turns about the center of the quilt, and squares become diamonds.
  3. Pieces already on the quilt turn with it, and new ones land on the turned spaces. Spaces at the edge are trimmed to the quilt.
  4. Drag the Rotation slider for any other angle, or press 0° to stand the grid upright again.

Good to know

  • Pieces pushed off the edge by a turn stay beside the quilt when you go back to 0°. Use Undo to bring them back instead.
  • Sashing needs an upright grid, so it’s off while the grid is turned.
  • Hexagons at 30° stand on a point.
