Start a quilt

Start a quilt of traditional blocks

Pick a classic block quilt, such as Ohio Stars, Churn Dash, Flying Geese, a Sampler or a Medallion, and set it straight or On point, with sashing and a border, before it opens on the design wall.

Where to find it

Design → What do you want to make? → Pieced blocks

See the block quilts
On the Pieced blocks shelf of the new-quilt setup, Ohio Stars is picked; On point turns the stars 45° and a 5″ border frames them in the live preview, then Start designing lays the quilt on the design wall

How to do it

  1. Open Design and choose Pieced blocks on What do you want to make?
  2. Pick a quilt from the shelf: Sawtooth Stars, Ohio Stars, Churn Dash, Flying Geese, Sampler, Medallion and more.
  3. Under Setting, keep Straight for blocks in rows, or choose On point to turn them 45°. Setting shows for the quilts that can be turned.
  4. Choose Sashing for strips between the blocks, and a Border. An on-point quilt has no sashing.
  5. Press Start designing. Every block is on the design wall, ready to turn, swap or recolor.

Good to know

  • Once it's on the design wall you can swap any block for another, or mix several into a sampler.
  • The triangles in these blocks can be rotary cut or cut from templates; the printable pattern gives both.
