Work out one fabric on a wider bolt

Buying one fabric on a wider bolt, like a 54″ linen or 108″ wide backing? Give just that fabric its own width in the Fabric Calculator, and its yardage is worked out on that width while the rest stay on 42″.

Where to find it

Designer → Fabric Calculator → a fabric's 42″ wide chip, under its name.

Open your quilts
In the fabric calculator, Cream's 42 inch wide opens Usable width for this fabric; 54 inches is picked, and Cream's yardage and the piecing fabric total drop while the other fabrics stay on 42 inches

How to do it

  1. Open the quilt's Fabric Calculator from the designer's top bar, or My Library → Quilts → Fabric on its card.
  2. Under Fabrics, find the one you're buying wider and press the 42″ wide chip under its name. Usable width for this fabric opens.
  3. Pick 44″, 54″, 60″ or 108″, or type your own under Custom and press Use.
  4. That fabric's yardage and the Piecing fabric total change on the spot. Every other fabric stays on 42″.
  5. To undo it, open the chip again and press Back to the default, 42″.

Good to know

  • Measure between the selvedges after trimming them: the calculator wants the width you can cut from, not the label on the bolt.
  • Set this width once for every fabric under Assumptions → Usable fabric width instead, if all your fabric is wider.
  • Widths set on one fabric are kept for this quilt in this browser only, so set them again on another computer.
