Show grid lines, center lines and outlines

Drafting lines that help you see the quilt: the grid, a center line each way, and outlines round pieces and shapes. The grid and center lines never show on a saved picture.

Where to find it

Designer → Grid → Show grid, Vertical center, Horizontal center, Piece outlines and Shape outlines

Open the designer
In the Grid section, Piece outlines draws a line round every piece of the Irish Chain, Outline weight makes the lines heavier, and Vertical center and Horizontal center draw dashed lines through the middle of the quilt

How to do it

  1. Open Grid in the left panel.
  2. Turn Show grid off to hide the grid lines, or drag Grid weight to draw them heavier.
  3. Turn on Vertical center and Horizontal center for lines through the middle of the quilt, for lining up a medallion or a mirrored layout.
  4. Turn on Piece outlines to draw a line round every piece, and drag Outline weight to make it heavier. Shape outlines traces every shape, so you can see where a curve or triangle sits.

Good to know

  • With sashing showing, the grid lines hide, since the sashing already shows where the spaces are.
  • On iPhone and iPad, Show Grid and Outline Each Piece are in Layout.
